THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday appealed to all to appreciate the government’s good intention to support growers and underscored that rubber procurement was not feasible.
“Except paddy, the experience of the state shows that procurement and holding of any produce are not workable. Kerala is a state which has very poor infrastructure for long-term storage. And tyre companies are not co-operating now, pointing out that rubber dealers have amassed heavy profits while the tax waiver achene was in vogue for three-and-a-half months till March this year,” he said.
“This is essentially a rubber farmer’s support scheme, not a procurement scheme,” said K M Mani.
