KOCHI: Despite Indian natural rubber price remaining higher than the global prices, anArgentinian company has expressed interest in buying branded rubber from the country by visiting the Rubber Board in Kerala.
Representatives of BUCO S A, a rubber product manufacturer based at Escobar, Argentina, held discussions with Rubber Board officials and major rubber exporters to explore the possibility of buying branded rubber from India.
India has been exporting branded Indian Natural Rubber (INR) of superior quality at a premium price since 2010. But in the last two years, the exports were hit because the international prices were lower than the Indian prices. “Almost 50 to 60 % of the total rubber exported is now INR,” said Dr Binoi K Kurian, deputy director, marketing of Rubber Board.
Nelson Buconic and Mariano Buconic representing the company said at the meeting organized by the board that they plan to buy branded rubber from India not only for their own factory, but to sell to other industries in Argentina. Their major requirement is for dry forms of rubber, especially block rubber. The prospective sellers who attended the meeting presented their offers before the company.
Binoi K Kurian feels that it is the quality of INR that attracted the Argentinian company to India. “Earlier they were buying rubber from Malaysia and Guatemala. They plan to buy 500 to 600 tonnes of natural rubber for their own consumption. The volumes will be much more for selling to other industries,” he said.
INR is sold at 50 paise to Re 1 more than the prevailing price of the rubber in the domestic market. In branding the quality of the export consignment is guaranteed by the Rubber Board.
